PEDIGREE CHAROLLAIS - SATURDAY 13TH OCTOBER 2018

Pedigree Charollais Females A strong sale was witnessed at Skipton on Saturday when 88 Pedigree Charollais Females were brought forward for sale from members of The BCSS Northern Region with an overall selling average of £565 per head. The highlight of the sale came in the form of a Ewe lamb (lot 67) from Charles and Stephen Marwood’s Foulrice “Celebration Sale”.

Enhanced Skipton native store cattle fixture a resounding success A much enhanced annual autumn fixture for native store cattle at Skipton Auction Mart was well supported by both buyers and vendors alike, attracting a strong and significantly increased turnout of over 100 head and support from both Morrisons Supermarkets through its pioneering Beef Shorthorn Scheme and the Beef Shorthorn Society. (Wed, Sept 12) Taking both first and second prizes in the Beef Shorthorn show class were local breeders, the Daggett family, who run the 20-strong Hartlington Beef Shorthorn herd at Wharfe House Farm in the Yorkshire Dales village of the same name.

Irish quartet top dogs on price at CCM Skipton Autumn highlight County Antrim’s Daniel McAllister leads the way with highest-ever 7,000gns sale Irish entries proved top dogs on price at 7,000gns (£7,350), 4,600gns (£4,830), 4,500gns (£4,725) and 3,900gns (£4,095) at Skipton Auction Mart’s annual autumn sale of working sheep dogs, when wet weather and high winds failed to dampen spirits at another highly successful fixture at the UK’s leading dog sale venue, when Scottish buyers in particular were out in force. Cattle take centre stage at CCM Skipton Autumn highlight A bumper bovine entry approaching 700 head took centre stage at Skipton Auction Mart’s annual Autumn Pedigree Day, featuring shows for multi-breed beef breeding cattle, suckled bulls, steer and heifer calves, primarily 2018-born. (Wed, Oct 10) This year’s pedigree fixture attracted a much larger turnout of 50 bulls and females and a top call of 1,700gns for a 2015-born Aberdeen-Angus bull, Crook Rise Pendle, from local breeders, John and Judith Garnett in Draughton.

Four breed shows at annual Skipton gimmer lambs highlight The ‘young ladies’ of the sheep world flocked to Skipton Auction Mart for the annual gimmer lamb highlight, with 4,188 head penned for sale and trade much in line with anticipations when producing an overall selling average of £59.39 per head. (Tues, Oct 9) The fixture again featured four breed shows for Swaledale, North of England Mule, Dales Mule and Masham lambs in pens of ten, with all but one of the first prize winners selling for top price in their respective sections

Wilf Buckle ‘belter’ ties up Skipton Swaledale ram £2,000 top price Strong trade, a 91% clearance for the 62 head on parade and tidy averages were the high points of the annual evening fixture for registered Swaledale rams at Skipton Auction Mart. (Mon, Oct 8) Long-serving Swaledale Sheep Breeders Association district secretary Wilf Buckle from Bleathgill, Kirkby Stephen, tied up top call of £2,000 with his pen-leading shearling ram, awarded first prize for the ram with the best conformation.

ANNUAL SHOW & SALE OF SWALEDALE EWES & GIMMER SHEARLINGS Forward: 3,248 head. Overall Average was £71.29 (-£36.52) CCM Auctions conducted their Annual Sale of Swaledale Draft Ewes and Gimmer Shearlings at Skipton Mart on Saturday. As anticipated swaledale draft ewes saw a reduction on the year in line with mule gimmer lambs. The good runs of sheep were well supported with bottom pens seeing the biggest fall on the year. None the less a good attendance of buyers with bidders for sheep throughout the day with the top prize 3 crop ewes av £145 the second to last vendor of the day.

Robinson hat-trick at CCM Skipton Swaledale females showcase Husband and wife Stuart and Debbie Robinson, of Foredale Farm, Horton-in-Ribblesdale, notched up a notable hat-trick when sending out the champion pen of ewes for the third year in succession at Skipton Auction Mart’s annual Saturday Swaledale females highlight for draft ewes and gimmer shearlings. CCM Auctions held their Annual Sale of Rams at Skipton Mart on Friday. With selling today spread across 4 sale rings the market was full to capacity with breeds covering the main sales for Blue Faced Leicesters, Suffolks, Blue Texels and Zwartbles together with second sales for Texels, Charollais, Beltex and other breeds. The results of the shows and prices achieved are as below. Thanks to all our judges for giving their time and to sponsors who generously gave prizes. Forward: 1178 head of Rams & Females.

David Towell tup top of the flocks with 3,000gns sale at CCM Skipton multi-breeds highlight Local Texel sheep breeder David Towell, who runs the Moor Top flock at Upper Leys Farm on Glusburn Moor, was the standout performer on price with a 3,000gns sale at Skipton Auction Mart’s multi-breeds sheep showcase for pedigree and pure-bred rams and females. (Fri, Oct 5) The South Craven farmer always does well at the annual highlight and he topped this year’s entire sale with a shearling ram by Moor Top Yorkie, sold at last year’s corresponding fixture for 1,400gns.
