SATURDAY LIVESTOCK 29 JUNE 2019

CCM Auctions Conducted their Monthly Sale of 105 Stirks, Weaned Calves and Young Store Cattle A busy grass day meant for a quieter ringside of buyers for today’s sale. Trade was also impeded by the falling finished beef price with most buyers looking to buy cattle for less. Best well grown cattle for their age could still make good money. Thomas Atkins would see £300+ for some lovely runs of Friesian bullocks with Suckler bred cattle selling away nicely for well shaped consignments from vendors such as Messrs Cornforth of Thornton seeing £825 for some British Blue heifers and Messrs Ireland of Waddington seeing a pen of yearling bullocks to £730.

CALVES - MONDAY 24TH JUNE 2019

Rearing Calves to £400 X5 (42) B&W av £150 Cont av £366.52 Native av £164.14 £400 seemed to be the stopping point for best calves today with five bulls realising this price throughout the sale. David Smith of Sutton in Craven had a cracking pen of Charolais calves presented today with two making £400 and averaging £393 for his run.

Forward: 49 Prime cattle comprising 18 Clean Cattle (under 30 mos), 4 Clean Cattle (over 30 mos) & 27 Cast Cattle. 1340 Prime Sheep comprising 1071 Spring Lamb, & 269 Hoggs, Cast Ewes & Rams. 65 Rearing Calves. 77 Breeding Sheep.

STORE & BREEDING CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 12TH JUNE 2019

Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle Forward: 392 head of cattle Comprising: 365 Feeding Cattle (86 Young Bulls, 59 Beef Feeding Cows/Stock Bulls, 216 Bullocks & Heifers) & 27 Breeding Cattle. A mixed show of feeding bulls met a very good trade selling to a busy ringside. Largest increase seen in the value of Lightweight 300kg to 350kg bulls with very few below £800. Premium bulls also more expensive with a number of bulls at £1250+. 400kg to 500kg bulls a slight improvement on previous sales

Forward: 53 Prime cattle comprising 30 Clean Cattle (under 30 mos), 1 Clean Cattle (over 30 mos) & 22 Cast Cattle. 1,407 Prime Sheep comprising 1,098 Spring Lamb, 311 Hoggs and Feeding Ewes/Rams. 53 Rearing Calves. 158 Breeding Sheep.

CALVES - MONDAY 3RD JUNE 2019

Rearing Calves to £445 (53) B&W av £55 Cont av £316.78 Native av £181.25 A healthy number of calves through the door this Monday with some very heady prices for the best calves today. £445 was the pinnacle today achieved by a belting calf from Shaun Sowray of Bishop Thornton, who also achieved the top price heifer at £380. Not quite the desire on the Limousin bulls today with a top of £350 for a Colin Whitelock calf.

Critchleys sell, Countrystyle buy latest Skipton prime cattle champion Skipton Auction Mart’s June prime cattle show and sale produced an outstanding and quality turnout of 30 under 30-month entries, the majority high-end retail types which were again keenly sought after by both leading butchers and farm shops from across the region. Fox Farms claim championship at Skipton prime lambs show Spring lamb numbers are on the rise at Skipton Auction Mart, with 1,098 head, the largest entry to date, penned for sale this week – and while prices are easing countryside due to increasing numbers a solid overall selling average of £93.10 per head, or 225.28p/kg, was recorded.
