CALVES - MONDAY 31ST AUGUST 2015

108 Rearing Calves to £500 B&W av £105.08 Cont av £354.1 Native av £267.7 108 calves forward today with a lot of young calves on show with B&W’s and Continental calves averaging 38 days old. Fine runs of calves certainly helped with Chris and Margie Hall and Joss Lancaster both bringing good numbers along with Stephen and Eddie Jeanes of Glusburn and David Hall of Conistone Cold who both did well with some strong black and white calves.

STORE LAMBS - WEDNESDAY 26TH AUGUST 2015

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs Forward: 6,751 Head, Overall av £52.67 Another large entry of lambs for the fortnightly sale at CCM Skipton was met by a throng of buyers, many of whom were attending for the first time this season and drawn to Skipton by the large entry and unrivalled choice it affords them. Lowland lambs were keenly contested, with 4,611 of these in the entry, the sale included some 745 Beltex sired lambs for which there was an inaugural prize show and sale attracting 8 pens into the show alley for Mr Andrew Graham to cast his eye over.

DAIRY & CALVES - MONDAY 24TH AUGUST 2015

Rearing Calves to £470 (50) B&W av £107.46 Cont av £390.9 Native av £288.75 A handy show of calves this morning with 50 good calves forward. Black and Whites were still good to sell with Angus Dean of Threshfield presenting high quality run, however it was Michael Heron who topped with a pure Friesian at £220. Continentals were also a good trade with David Smith of Sutton in Craven topping with a strong Blue Bull selling for £470. Other noted vendors were Richard Spence, John Rushton , Fred Houseman and Calvert’s of West Marton making the average £409.55. Blue heifers were also a good trade with Fred Houseman topping with Dean’s and Calverts taking the heifer average to £350.

Stainbank herd five-timer at Craven Dairy Auction Robin Jennings, who runs the Stainbank pedigree Holstein dairy herd at Hill House Farm, South Stainley, near Harrogate, bagged his fifth consecutive Craven Dairy Auction championship at Skipton Auction Mart’s main August Show and sale. (Mon, Aug 24)

Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle. Forward: 446 head of cattle, Comprising: 37 Young Feeding Bulls, 387 Bullocks & Heifers & 22 Breeding Cattle. Numbers were again good for the time of year at CCM Auctions fortnightly sale of Store & Breeding Cattle held at Skipton Mart on Wednesday.

GIMMER SHEARLINGS - TUESDAY 18TH AUGUST 2015

Forward: 5,043 head of Gimmer Shearlings CCM Auctions conducted their Great Annual Prize Sale of Gimmer Shearlings at Skipton on Tuesday. An increased entry of sheep at this year’s sale met with a ringside of buyers that were far more cautious and who were looking to secure replacement sheep for prices that reflect this years reduced prime sheep trade. As a result the overall sale average was £27 down on the year to stand at £122.95, Mules averaged £123.76. Ribble Valley champions at Skipton gimmer shearling showcase Ribble Valley farming brothers Peter, Edward and Robert Fox, of Withgill, Clitheroe, sent out the champion pen of ten Mules at Skipton Auction Mart’s opening annual gimmer shearling show and sale. (Tuesday, Aug 18) They stepped up on their second place in the same show class last year when securing the title, receiving the Edgar Boothman Memorial Trophy, again presented by his brother James Boothman, of Linton.

Rearing Calves to £660 (187) B&W av £108.22 Cont av £390.93 Native av £257.56 A fantastic show of calves with 187 on offer, despite favourable weather conditions calves were out in force with a bunch of fresh faces taking advantage of the good trade. In the pre-sale show David Smith of Sutton Craven took top honours with a fantastic British Blue bull which ended up selling for an eye watering £650 with the Reserve Champion, a British Blue Heifer from regular supporters the Sowray Brothers topping the sale at £660. British Blues averaged £442 for bulls and £401 for Blue heifers.

Sutton’s David Smith champion at Skipton rearing calf highlight Summer show attracts bumper 187-strong turnout South Craven dairy farmer David Smith was supreme champion at the Skipton Auction Mart’s summer rearing calf show. (Mon, Aug 17) Mr Smith, who runs his Holstein Friesian commercial dairy herd at Bent Farm, Sutton-in-Craven, last won the Skipton calf championship in March, 2013, and, more than two years on, repeated the feat at the latest renewal when his first prize British Blue-cross bull calf was awarded the overall title by judge Richard Ogg, of Scunthorpe.

STORE LAMBS - WEDNESDAY 12TH AUGUST

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs and Early Breeding Sheep. CCM Auctions held their 3rd Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs at Skipton on Wednesday where a very nice entry of 6,151 head were sold on the day. Trade for lowland lambs was slightly sharper than the previous sale with customers keen to graze surplus grass. Mule Wether Lambs topped at £52 for a pen of 30 Dales Mules from Keith Verity, Lofthouse with an average for the 535 head of £48.80. 312 Breeding sheep were sold today at a similar trade to last fortnight for mainly older ewes.

80 Rearing Calves & 22 Dairy Cattle ... 80 Rearing Calves to £495 B&W av £114.62 Cont av £360.42 Native av £225 A cracking show of black and white calves today with 42 on offer averaging £114.62 with Michael Heron of Bramhope topping at £280 for a superb Friesian Bull with Alan Middleton of Hartley’s, Bolton Abbey hitting £270 for a half bred Friesian. 42 Black and White calves averaged 32 days of age.
