RARE BREED POULTRY PRESS - SATURDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER

Trevor Hardaker repeats Craven Feather Auctions championship success Rhode Island Red poultry breeder Trevor Hardaker enjoyed a repeat championship success at the Craven Premier Poultry show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart. (Sat, Sept 5) As in 2015, Mr Hardaker, from Lower Dunsforth, between Boroughbridge and York, lifted the title with three pullets, whose breeding lines go back to a strain from renowned Rhode Island Red man, Jack Butterworth, of Preston. One of the trio also won the best soft feather show class at this year’s Egton Show. They sold for £110, top price in show.

WENSLEYDALE PRESS - SATURDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER

Ernie Sherwin is Skipton Wensleydale champion Multi title-winning North Yorkshire Wensleydale pedigree sheep breeder Ernie Sherwin clinched another supreme championship at the 124th annual show and sale for the Wensleydale Longwool Sheep Breeders’ Association at Skipton Auction Mart. (Sat, Sept 5) Mr Sherwin, of The Grange, Nosterfield, Bedale, again got his hands on a title he last won in 2013 with his first prize shearling ram, Nosterfield Survivor, which also lifted the trophy for the best shearling ram bred by the exhibitor.

Welsh showmen land leading honours at Skipton Jacob highlight Welsh breeders landed the principal honours at the Northern Area Jacob Sheep Breeders’ 40th annual show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart. (Sat, Sept 5) The supreme championship fell to the first prize ewe lamb and female champion from first-time exhibitor, 19-year-old Rhys Francis, who runs the Pistyll flock at Pistyll Uchaf, Abergorlech in Carmarthenshire.

Bishops take crown at Skipton pedigree Beltex highlight Gloucestershire husband and wife Andrew and Becky Bishop, of Pitfield Farm, Eldersfield, were supreme champions with a ram lamb at the Beltex Sheep Society’s 15th annual show and sale of pedigree rams and females at Skipton Auction Mart.

Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle Forward: 578 head of cattle Comprising: 64 Young Feeding Bulls, 495 Bullocks & Heifers, 1 Feeding Cow & 18 Breeding Cattle Another large entry for CCM Auctions regular fortnightly sale of cattle. Young Bulls were a very sharp trade especially younger creep fed sorts. In the Store section buyers were quick to snap up anything smart or strong, however they were a little more selective than of late on any second quality types.
