AHDB WORKSHOP - MONDAY 24TH APRIL 2017

AHDB stages calf rearing workshop at CCM Skipton A well-attended calf rearing workshop led by AHDB Dairy was staged at Skipton Auction Mart alongside the same day’s Craven Dairy Auction and Yorkshire Holstein Club dairy show and sale, on Monday, April 24. Organised to help breeders rear healthier calves more efficiently, the workshop was hosted by Becki Leach, AHDB Dairy’s Knowledge Exchange Manager for the North, and Andy Dodd, Technical Manager for Breeding and Fertility.

The ‘Calf to Calving’ Initiative is purpose-designed to help calf breeders reduce mortality and rear heifers efficiently and more economically to calve by 24 months.

Across-the-board advice, including genetics, nutrition and weight, was freely available to attendees.

It was one in a series of regional workshops led by AHDB, which is currently working in partnership with 12 farms across the country on best practice calf and heifer management by tracking ten calves at each farm from birth to calving into the herd.
