Another great result from Skipton Auction Mart festive charity showcase
Champion in the annual fodder hay competition, which formed part of special events staged for charity alongside the annual 2018 Christmas primestock shows at Skipton Auction Mart, was Richard Close, of Starbotton, with his first prize bale of seed hay. (Sun, Nov 25)
Darley’s Jackie Dalby, a familiar face in the front office at the mart, was a dual red rosette winner with her home-made sausage rolls and Victoria sandwich cake, with Skipton’s Milly Eaton taking another first prize with her Scotch eggs.
Christmas fruit cake winner was Dorothy Dean, of Threshfield, while Beamsley’s Cathy Cromarty had the best jar of chutney, with the sloe gin competition class falling to Margaret Watkinson, of Sessay. The best home-made apple pie came from Easingwold’s Hazel Gamble, with Jenny Dibb, of Dobb Park, winning the adults home-made Christmas decoration class.
Children were also well catered for, with Georgie White, of Slaithwaite, a dual red rosette winner with her home-made Christmas decoration and animal drawing, while Rosie Garth, of Long Preston, also won two classes for children’s cupcakes and wooden spoons.
Brian Church, from Askwith, won the animal photo competition class, with John North Jnr, of Giggleswick, successful in the children’s paper plate class.
Alan Beecroft, of Countrystyle Meats Farm Shop and Restaurant in Lancaster, won the traditional pork pie competition class.
Edible and other entries again generously donated by willing participants, plus other donations from both individuals and local companies, were auctioned off to a packed audience of enthusiastic bidders, who again dug deep in support of the two main annual beneficiaries, Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice in Oxenhope and national farming charity, the Addington Fund.
An estimated £3,300 was realised on the day, with more to come.
