DAIRY & CALVES - MONDAY 10TH AUGUST 2015

80 Rearing Calves & 22 Dairy Cattle ... 80 Rearing Calves to £495 B&W av £114.62 Cont av £360.42 Native av £225 A cracking show of black and white calves today with 42 on offer averaging £114.62 with Michael Heron of Bramhope topping at £280 for a superb Friesian Bull with Alan Middleton of Hartley’s, Bolton Abbey hitting £270 for a half bred Friesian. 42 Black and White calves averaged 32 days of age.

Continentals would be a touch easier with some of the better calves on hold until next week’s calf show but for the goods present trade was buoyant and a solid run from Wellocks of Kirkby Malham met a strong trade for their age topping at £445.

Craven Dairy Auction (22 head)

A smaller show than usual and with further cuts to the milk price trade was certainly lighter with only the best of cattle making good prices.  Pre-sale show judged by James Kayley, Halton West found Robin Jennings’ newly calved heifer to be the best on show and turned into the top price at £1720 selling to Gratton’s at Brimham Lodge.  Keith Downs made the second top price with his 2nd Calver reaching £1700 with Richard Walker, East Morton reaching £1600 with a nice Shorthorn X Heifer.
