A handy show of calves and a healthy trade throughout the sale. Continentals saw a couple of extra bidders ringside today with bulls perhaps a stronger trade on the week for slightly lesser calves. A run of quality flekvieh x MRI bulls from Chris Watson of Horton in Craven saw some fierce bidding and averaging £267.14 for a run of 7 bulls. Black and whites were up a gear again compared to previous weeks with anything a month old and fleshy £100 and topping at £165 for a calf from Ralph Guy, Earby.

 

Some stirks up for sale this Monday with some strong bidding. Jonathon Binns Shorthorns topped the trade at £330 with the Caygill family of Rylstone reaching £190 for a 3 Month old Black and White.

Craven Dairy Auction (27 head)

A cracking day in the dairy ring today with a 100% clearance. 4 Pedigree Bulls 19 Maidens and 5 Milkers went under the hammer with the pre sale show being a victorious outing for the Lawson Family of Arthington, Nr Otley. Their tremendous homebred heifer which had calved 21 days, giving 30kg and by the famous bull Grafeeti was highly sought after and sold for £2150 to Aubrey Greenhalgh. Reserve Overall champion was the Pedigree Bull presented by the Lawson Family once again. A big, predominantly black bull Sired by Monument Impression and from the Lawson’s Blueblood family took the top price in the bulls at £2,000 selling to Anthony Bolland of Bolton Abbey. Two bulls presented by Brian Moorhouse of Hesper Farm were also keenly sought after, with both bulls just a year old and from the Honey family boasting sires of Mogul and Super sire sold for £1,800 and £1,500.

 

A run of surplus maiden heifers from Paul and Janet Bolland of Airton also received a strong following, with a range of 15month down to 4month old heifers averaging £628.95 and topping for a pair of Seagull Bay MVP daughters at £770.
