MARKET REPORT - FRIDAY 4TH OCTOBER: RAM SALE CCM Auctions held their Annual Sale of Rams at Skipton Mart on Friday. With selling today spread across 4 sale rings the market was full to capacity with breeds covering the main sales for Blue Faced Leicesters, Suffolks, Hampshire Downs, Blue Texels and Zwartbles together with second sales for Texels, Charollais, Beltex, Lleyn, also Chamoise, Cheviot and other breeds.

CCM Auctions held their Annual Sale of Rams at Skipton Mart on Friday. With selling today spread across 4 sale rings the market was full to capacity with breeds covering the main sales for Blue Faced Leicesters, Suffolks, Hampshire Downs, Blue Texels and Zwartbles together with second sales for Texels, Charollais, Beltex, Lleyn, also Chamoise, Cheviot and other breeds.

All sale rings were full as buyers looked to buy the best of rams and trade was buoyant for most classes, especially the Suffolks, Texels and Texel Beltex crosses .

Texel shearling rams met a fast trade with a busy ringside all day. This continued into a strong ram lamb section.

SUFFOLK

The Lingfield ring was once again full but today the Suffolks were the stock on sale and with a fantastic show trade was buoyant throughout with the main highlights coming from local breeders; Matt Reeday, Hetton Simon Bolland, Bolton Abbey and G&A Lawn, Skipton. All of the aforementioned had shearlings making 700gns with Simon Bolland and another local Mark Evans, Steeton having the pick of the lamb trade with Simon making 650gns and 600gns of his two best lambs and Marks best two making 550gns each.

CONTINENTAL

The non MV sheep section;  RC Robinson of Pannal once again topped the trade with a fantastic run of texels topping at 980gns. TC Whiteford of Brampton also pushed the trade with three consecutive lots making 800gns. All in all a brilliant day in the lingfields ring with a 98% clearance rate.

BLUE FACED LEICESTER

The Annual Sale of Blue Faced Leicester Sheep at Skipton Mart saw a leading bid of 2000gns paid to WA&A Booth who run their Smearsett Flock at Feizor. Their ram lamb, a son of the old black tag, out of the dam of  D15 was purchased by Kevin Wilson, Blubberhouses. Messrs Booth only other entry, another ram lamb this time by their David Lawson ram out of a Z4 ewe sold at 1200gn to KM&L Throup, Silsden Moor.

Dick Burley from Wath, Nidderdale brought out of a shearling ram by a homebred sire. This stylish sort caught the eye of Joe Throup, Draughton who purchased it at 1400gns.

John Mason from Oddacres brought out a strong pen of shearling rams as usual, and his pen leader was a son of their Smearsett tup selling at 1300gns to A Newbould & Son, Dallowgill.

A trio of shearling rams sold at 1100gns; the first from E&SCL Harker & Son, Lofthouse finding a new home with V Verity & Son, West End, the 2nd was presented by Richard Mawson sired by his Crisp ram and picked out by John Lancaster, Bordley, whilst the 3rd ram was from KM&L Throup, Silsden. This son of their Otterburn Lodge sire found a new home with Stuart & Stephen Lund of Littondale.

The further four figure prices of 1050gns & 1000gns were achieved by Shearling Rams from Richard Mawson & Neil Heseltine respectively. A 96% clearance rate was achieved for BFL’s reflecting the strength of the commercial trade at this noted annual sale.

Top price was the champion a shearling ram from Deborah Whitcher selling for 920gns to Mr Whitely who bought another for 520gns from the same pen. Second top price again from same home selling for 700gns to J Mellin. Charles Marwood sold the regular customer Denton Park at 460 & 380gns. His 1st prize ram lamb and reserve champion made 440gns to Mares. Other ram lambs were 390gns again from Charles and 360gns for K Foster.
