Keelham Farm Shop set their stall out early and secured the first 7 cattle into the ring for their shops in Skipton and Thornton. Their list included the highest gross animal a 555kg Limousin cross heifer at £1374 (247.5p/kg) from Simon Bennett of Silsden Moor who also provided the leading priced animal by weight a 475kg Limousin cross heifer selling to Keelham for 254.5p/kg.

Cows scarce today with the fine weather and a very good trade against the national slight downward trend. A few Beef cows forward sold particularly well with a leading gross of £1332 (167.5p/kg) for KA&HL Fawcett of Barden. Heavy Black and Whites carrying meat comfortably to 130p and steaking cows to 117.5p/kg.

A larger show of New Season Lambs forward for today’s sale, and average prices were very similar to last week. Best lambs would be dearer with an additional buyer operating helping things along. Best of the per kilo prices was 289.2p from Mick Hewitt, Giggleswick selling to Countrystyle Meats of Lancaster. Richard & Mark Ireland from Whalley had lambs at 255.5p, Tony Kiernan from Longridge had a good run of lambs selling away at 251.2p 248.9p and 248.8p. In the lump Mark Evans from Steeton had top price of £125.50 for Suffolks, Richard & Mark Ireland £115.50, KM&L Throup from Silsden Moor £113, Tony Kiernan £112, Mark Evans with a further 4 pens all at £112, Richard Crabtree from Clitfton at £111.50, R Emmott from Silsden £110.50, whilst the following vendors all had lambs at £110 each A Guy & Son Elslack, JA&JM Wade Cononley, M&R Smith Winterburn and Mark Evans again.
Cast Sheep continue to sell well, and prices generally maintained from last week.

Good trade throughout the breed sections for calves from British Blue Bulls headed up by Ian Collins with a 24 day old calf which sold for £450. Church Farm Enterprises presented a lovely pen of British Blue heifer calves at just over a month in age which average £408 for 4. Strong bidding for Native breeds both bulls and heifers with the pick of the Angus £375 from Richard Spence and Edward Berry £320 for a Hereford Bull. A higher percentage of Black and White bulls which were younger and bred from heifers met a good trade with the best black calves £158 for British Friesian from JC&DJ Marshall&Sons and crossed calves £145 from IR&DE Wellock.
