Although it was a good weather day, there was an increased entry of lambs at CCM Skipton with 3,494 head sold. Prices weren’t just as strong as last week, 191.5p today compared to 203.4p last week, but vendors shouldn’t be disappointed as the average is up some £13 per head on the same week in 2015, and this with the average weight at 40.3kg today compared to 41.9kg last year.

Prices today saw Mark Evans show a lovely run of Suffolk cross lambs topping the market at £108 each purchased by Nick Dalby for Kendalls Butchers of Harrogate and Pateley Bridge. Mark sold others at £103 and £102. Richard Cratree of P Cratree & Son of Clifton were next at £106 with Beltex crosses purchased by Andrew Atkinson for Hartshead Meat Co. Charlie Clarke of Cowling matched this feat with Beltex crosses at £106 sold to Vivers Scotlamb. Other chief prices were £101 AJ Taylor, £100 P Crabtree & Son; £100 RA&M Earnshaw, £100 C&SB Whitelock.

Per kilo the leading price was for Charollais cross Beltex lambs from Peter Houseman of Padside selling for 244.4p/kg to Vivers Scotlamb. Vivers took the next two highest priced pens at 235.6p from R&VM Clarke and 230.8p from DG Boothman. Other vendors with prices at 220p or more were P Crabtree & Son, RH&MR Ireland, S&P Scriven, J Howard, DG Boothman, JA&JH Hewetson, Thwaite Bros, D Falls & Son, JW Stockdale & Son.

A poorer show of ewes were well bid for and an average of £56 doesn’t do justice of the strong trade.

Yet again a swift trade in the calf ring for all types. Hayton Stocks topped the day’s trade with some 2 month old Simmentals topping at £490. Mark Houseman was in charge of Church Farm Enterprises’ consignment today with their bulls topping at £460 and 6 between there and £420 from the same home. RM Spence took the top with his Friesian calf at £205 with days average for B&W’s at £118. Natives saw more fierce competition with good show receiving a healthy trade, bulls to £330 for a AA out of a Friesian and Natives averaging £216.5.
