2,806 Prime Sheep comprising 2,415 Prime Hoggs, 391 Cast Ewes & Rams

A decent show of sheep numbers wise, but a greater portion now being Mules, Horned or Hill bred. As expected, the Beltex types and nice fleshed tidy looking export weights were a sharp trade being dearer by a nice margin on the week. Top of the shop was a nice pair of Beltex Lambs 291.9p, 37kg at £108 from Henry Atkinson, who also presented the top price per head at £123, 44kg at 279.5p. The same vendor also had lambs at 280.3p (38kg £106.50). Tim Robinson was next in line at £116 each or 269.8p for 43kg Beltex. Henry Atkinson was again in the prices at 269p 263p and 254p or £114.50 and £105. Walter Parkinson presented some good ¾ bred lambs, the best of which topped at 248.7p (39kg £97) and 240p (40kg £96), Duncan Cowking was in the top prices too at 243.6p (39kg £95). R Peel presented lambs at £110 and £103, Tim Robinson other pens at £102 and Henry Atkinson other pens at £106 £105 & £104.

A nice tidy export weight lamb was in very good demand this week, with these types 185p to 195p, and a commercial sort 170p to 180p. Heavy lambs however continue to be a varied trade depending on fat cover, with over fat types 150ish, but a nice lean meat 45kg to 47kg 170p to 175p.

Cast sheep were a better trade than expected, with light and medium weight ewes finding a decent trade, and heavy ewes so long as not over fat good to place too, recording an overall average of £57. Best of the horned ewes were a pen of 32 Scotch Black Faced fed Ewes at £57.50 from C&SB Whitelock, and best heavy ewes to £129.50.
