3,845 Prime Sheep

A very similar sized show of sheep included the first Spring lambs of this season. Consigned by Robert Towers of Farleton they topped at £130 per head or 260p/kg and averaged £120.50 or 241.4p/kg.

A more mixed show of Old Season Lambs were definitely harder to place, especially the heavier ones, with buyers cautious of buying over fat sheep and so it was the 40’s to 45’s that were best to sell, often making as much as a 48kg. Handy weighted sheep maintained last weeks’ trade.

Breeding Sheep (224 Head)

A similar sized show of sheep with lambs was very much a tale of 2 halves. Any young ewes with strong lambs were good to sell, up to £248 for a pen of Texels with Twins from Jonny Metcalfe of Linton. Any older ewes with strong lambs also found a good following, but lesser quality types, especially those with younger lambs seemed harder to cash.
