2,742 Prime Sheep comprising 2363 Prime Lambs, 5 Prime Hoggs & 374 Cast Ewes & Rams

A nice trade today with 2368 lambs levelling at 190p, a tidy result considering that there were not as many of the very smart goods about as usual. Some good prices for heavier lambs (45-52kg), John Turner of Draughton topping the market at £114 £112 and £110 to Swaledale Foods and 2 pens at £107 to Keelham Farmshop and Kendalls Farm Butchers. EP&JM Hutchinson of Faceby sold at £110 to Kendalls Farm Butchers and £108 into Hartshead Meat Co who also bought lambs at £108 from Mark Evans of Steeton. The same vendor sold lambs at £106 to Farmers Fresh (Wales).Per Kilo, Frankland Farms topped the sale at 239.5p for Texel Beltex crosses purchased by Vivers Scotlamb, whilst Hartshead Meats had lambs at 239p from David Boothman of Halton East, 234.8p from EP&JM Hutchinson, Faceby and 229.8p from Mark Evans.
A heavier commercial lamb were easier sold with buyers keen for 42kg to 48kg types and this bracket averaging 192p, nice 38kg to 42kg were also either side of 190p. Lightweight lambs also finding a good trade for anything with plenty of meat on board.
Cast sheep were a very mixed entry, trade maybe just a shade easier for heavy types, but medium and lightweight ewes holding their value from recent weeks.

Calves wanted in larger numbers as trade continues on strong trend at Skipton. Best Blue were a pleasure to sell with Sowray brothers of Bishop Thornton seeing their handy blue bull reach £450 selling to Robert Foster. Not far behind were a cracking run of British Blue calves from Martyn Jennings, Cowling with his 5 bulls all over £400. Continental heifers were up and down, however the best end topped at out with a heifer again from Sowray’s at £405.  Black and whites a straight trade at £54.57 for a average show of goods.

Stirks were again provided by Alan Twell from Lincolnshire with another load of 16 lim x bullocks and heifers 10 -12 weeks of age and selling to £520 and averaging £435 right through. Another consignment booked in for three weeks time on the 13th August.
