Old season lamb numbers remaining constant with 2123 sold today. Trade was very similar to last week for all classes, best handy weights up around 250p or more, commercial export weights selling either side of 200p. However there were more lightweight continentals about than in previous weeks, and a lot of these weighing 32kg to 37kg finding their way out as stores. Mule lambs were again good to sell, with £32 to £35 par for the course for nice 44kg to 47kg types. Another large show of Horned wethers saw lightweights £20 to £25 over weight and prime weights £28 to £32 over the weight.

Cull ewes and rams were another good trade, several pens of heavy ewes over £100, to £106.50 from Charles Marwood and £104.50 from David Pennock, rams at £145.50 and £137.50 from David Towell, best Mule ewes to £75.50 averaging £67, Horned ewes saw Scotch Black Faced to £62.50, Swaledale to £58.50 with 10 further pens over £50, and Lonks to £62.50. Overall Cast sheep average of £60.33.

Craven Dairy Auction (39 head)

Quiet on the milking front, but plenty of faces to sell them to. Brian Moorhouse, Bell Busk had the pick of the bunch with a superb home bred pedigree heifer giving 31kg reaching £2650 to a Mr Clarke of Hampsthwaite.  2nd Prize from Richard Close was another fine specimen with John Howard, Heslaker snapping that up for £2120. Robinson’s of Eldroth were once again making good headway with their HB heifer reaching a handy £2250.

Once again a good packet of cattle in the youngstock section with Messrs Whitaker of Laneshawbridge having a good show of Incalf and maiden heifers forward for sale with £1700 made of one of their March calvers. MGT Corner of Easingwold had the 1st Prize heifer and rightly so with it realising a dizzy £1860.
