Prime Cattle (under 30 mos)

The November Prime Show saw Messrs S&P Scriven of Elslack win the Championship with a 575kg British Blue cross steer which made 269.5p/kg or £1550 selling to Mick Etherington on behalf of Ralph Pearson, Wholesale Meats of Bradford. It was a clean sweep for the Bradford company which went on to buy the reserve champion a 545kg Limousin cross heifer from CD&RF Kitching of Threshfield for the leading price per kg of the day at 273.5p/kg or £1491 and in fact, every other prize winner in the show.

Keelham Farm Shop of Skipton bought the leading gross priced heifer a 575kg Limousin heifer from CD&RF Kitching for £1526 or 265.5p/kg and Robertshaws Farm Shop also bought a 640kg Limousin heifer from amongst the heavy cattle at 235.5p/kg or £1507 from Simon Bennett of Silsden Moor. Indications are that with a new lockdown approaching that retail trade is picking up and those companies with more of a catering mix are looking to use existing stocks up and reviewing their requirements after Thursday.
