Just a fair show of 2788 lambs penned for sale today, and as expected trade didn’t live up to last week exceptional prices, but an overall selling average of 215.1p or £89.70 per head was recorded and proved a very good average on the day when looking about. Some strong prices as usual for the butchers type lambs, Ellis Bros from Addingham Moorside topping at 315p with 40kg at £126 selling to Vivers Scotlamb who purchased lambs at 293p from Messrs Hill & Wright of Doncaster. Two pens made 285p, those being consigned by Ellis Bros, and then from JJ Beckwith & Son, Gargrave.

Just as sent out to vendors on the txt, Heavy Ewes were in high demand. Trade topped today at £147.50 from N Speake. White faced ewes with meat sold just as dear as recent weeks coming to an overall breed avg of £85. Big Mules sold dearer than last week with big heavy ewes £80+ up to £84.50. Grazing Mules sold in the £60’s with some plainer ewes in the mid £40’s to mid £50’s. Swale ewes look less money on paper, but there were no big heavies in.
