3,189 Prime Sheep

Spring lambs forward in greater numbers and trade very level on the week averaging just over 250p/kg with an additional retail butcher in attendance sourcing lambs from Skipton helping to move the entry of 60 head.

Some great runs of Lowland Hoggs today with anything well finished gaining a good price on the day, very smart types up around 300p, Keving Marshall topping the sale at 330p/kg (36kg at £119) purchased by Vivers Scotlamb, whilst in the lump it was Nick Capstick from Bolton by Bowland who topped the sale at £136 per head for 56kg Beltex cross hoggs, Messrs Atkinson’s run of 300 Beltex Texels topped at £128 whilst Paul Simpson’s last round up for this season topped at £123.

Commercial Lowland lambs were from 190p to 225p depending on weight and quality.

Hill bred hoggs were a great trade again, especially good Mule Hoggs, which were keenly contested. Some runs of good horned hoggs adding up well too. Cast sheep really picking up a few gears now as well with numbers tightening fast.
