An increased entry of 654 head of Store & Breeding Cattle was presented at the fortnightly sale at Skipton Mart on Wednesday. Trade generally was a touch cheaper than the previous sale, although overall the cattle were not as strong either with more in the 12 month to 17 month old region than previously seen.

The best end of cattle were good to sell, with bulls to £1450, Bullocks to £1385 and heifers to £1390. Bullocks found a good following, with best Charolais yearling types £950 to £1100. Strong Continental Bullocks £1250 to £1350. Angus cattle also sold well with 65 on offer today, and these increased entries are drawing buyers from a wider field. Strong Angus sold to £1320 from JD Taylor & Son, Small House, and bullocks at 17 months to £1240 from David Pawson, Billinge. Dairy bred Bullocks sold to £1180 for Montbelliards from D&J Coates. Andrew Bailey from Eldroth had the pick of the younger bullocks, a superb black bullock sired by a British Blue and only 9 months old sold at £1280. The heifers as usual saw quality sell well at Skipton, best end receiving fierce competition at times, but the second quality younger cattle were cheaper than the previous sale.
