STORE & BREEDING CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 18TH DECEMBER 2019

Forward: 401 head of cattle. Comprising: 399 Feeding Cattle (59 Young Bulls, 64 Beef Feeding Cows, 276 Bullocks & Heifers) & 2 Breeding Cattle.

Feeding Bulls – Those selling spring born calves and saving on feed/bedding costs were rewarded with a very good trade. RD Elliott of Tadcaster sold strong February 19 born Simmentals to £1135, with the April born Bulls generally £850-£950. A good line up of customers looking to keep bull pens full into the New Year.

Feeding Cows – Trade continued in the strong vien of recent weeks to average £781 for a very commercial show with just one pure bred type in the entry. Best of the cows £1180, £1150 from Highfield Farm LLP, the remainder of the entry mainly first cross beef cows carrying a varying amount of finish but a good attendance of buyers looking for cattle to feed into the new year.

Stores – A very good entry of feeding cattle so close to Christmas, with several lots of stronger bullocks and heifers finding favour on the day to record a sharp sale. The nice cattle carrying flesh were keenly sought, some medium types of continentals lacking shape but looking looking like going forward quick found a ready market, but plainer sorts just a straight trade. Native sired cattle and Black and whites were forward in good numbers, and Angus/Shorthorn sired bullocks and heifers were good to sell, whilst the 38 Black and White bullocks topped £860 av £743.
