STORE & BREEDING CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 23RD OCTOBER 2019

Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle. Forward: 584 head of cattle. Comprising: 580 Feeding Cattle (79 Young Bulls, 60 Beef Feeding Cows, 441 Bullocks & Heifers) & 4 Breeding Cattle.

Feeding Bulls – strong bulls reflected the steady trade experienced by finishers selling in both live and dead market. Finished bulls topped at £1280 with short keep cattle. £1000 to £1200 spring born weaned bulls a comparatively good trade to £895.

Feeding Cows – these met a very positive trade with an increased entry of Beef crosses forward after weaning. Certainly, the time of year to fill up with the best of the beef cows. Top price for a good but not exceptional British Blue cow from CT Akrigg av £1120.

Stores – Like the bulls, strong short keep cattle mirroring current finished prices, smart retail type heifers still a decent trade with these generally getting away well in finished markets, whilst commercial older cattle selling to a more cautious audience. Commercial yearling cattle still under price pressure when compared to prices in the summer, not helped with housing upon us and stronger cattle cheaper.
