STORE & BREEDING CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 31ST JANUARY 2018

Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle. Forward: 908 head of cattle. Comprising: 293 Young Feeding Bulls, 27 Beef Feeding Cows, 580 Bullocks & Heifers, & 8 Breeding Cattle.

A high quality show of feeding bulls met a very good trade. Top price went to Messrs J&G Huck of Hubberholme with a 9mo British Blue x which made £1340 and worth noting their second bull into the ring a May born 2017 British Blue at £1260. Under 12month bulls if shapely and strong enough were regularly bid to £1150 plus. At the small end trade generally levelled in the £800-£950 range with trade for this type easing slightly towards the end with the number available. 400kg plus Continental bulls also a good trade with the general run making £980-£1170, a handful of 18 month old bulls also well bid averaging £1193 to a top of £1240 for a British Blue from G Whalley of Clitheroe.

A nice show of 27 beef bred feeding cows sold to an overall average of £977 with tops of £1330 for a young Limousin from R Nutter of Fence, others at £1280 from P Fletcher of Heywood. This section attracts a good ringside of buyers and is an easy option for selling beef sired feeding cows on the same day as your stores.

Neary 600 Store Cattle on offer today saw strong heifers and smart younger heifers very good to sell with plenty of interest in these, especially anything that was fit for service. A more commercial heifer was a shade easier in response to a slightly lower prime price. Bullocks were a decent trade too, nice yearling sorts got away very well and nice stronger sorts were few and far between.
