STORE & BREEDING CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 8TH JULY 2020

Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle Forward: 485 head of cattle Comprising: 460 Feeding Cattle (132 Young Bulls, 40 Beef Feeding Cows, 288 Bullocks & Heifers) & 25 Breeding Cattle.


 

132 Feeding Bulls – trade was good today with feeders in fine form at the ringside. The best heavy yearling bulls were quickly sold and 7 of them achieving £1200 or more, to a top of £1390 achieved on two occasions for strong Limousin crosses from IJ Pratt of Hebden Bridge.
Bulls under a year old peaked at £1270 from J Pickles, Ribblehead, with the 10 months to under 12 months old bracket averaging £1061, with an overall sale average of £1023 for 132 head sold.
A fantastic run of 16 Simmentals aged 10 and 11 months from RD Elliott ranged from £1150 to £1195, and many other better sorts in a similar price range.
The younger end of Continental Bulls to farm on were from £800 to £1000 depending on quality, whilst there were several runs of Native sired bulls in the entry today, including a pen of 7 yearling Herefords at £860, other natives to £1145 for a pair of 14 month Angus from AR&HE Cox, and super pen of 3 Angus at 10/11mo making £1080 from J Lohan who also had yearling Herefords to £1110. Shorthorns made to £860, whilst Stabiliser’s were to £1195 for an 11month and £1080 for a pen of 3 yearlings.


40 Feeding Cows – A very varied entry today with a shortage of the very best types, with more of the genuine grazing sorts making up the entry, but still recording an average top side of £900 when levelling at £911. It was a cracking Limousin Cow from AJ Mason, Skipton that took top price honours at £1200, closely followed at £1185 with a Lim/Blue cross from JW Stockdale & Son, Burnsall. 6 other cows achieved prices at £1100 or more. The trade is there at the moment for all classes ranging from short keep meated cows to lean lasses to graze at grass. 288 Stores - Store cattle trade once again as expected with trade all round similar to the last sale. Young Bullocks regular £820 to £1020 with some exceptional bullocks £1020 reaching £1265 for some real good making cattle from P&E Fox. Strong Bullocks sold to an active audience with a large run of Blue Bullocks from D&J Coates selling to £1160 for several pens. With other slightly smaller Blue Bullocks away at £1120. Black and Whites selling very well with the large bullocks reaching £1110 with smaller sorts but still good ranging sorts with flesh £850 to £1000 with plainer sorts less money.

Blue heifers sold away well again with dairy bred blue with weight £1030-£1100 and suckler bred sorts reaching heights of £1330. Top price today was achieved by RS&HA Davey for a pair of Heifers at £1550. Young heifers very similar to recent sales. Many top grading heifers 14 months and under reaching over £1000 with the best spec reaching over £1200. Good commercial heifers sold regular £800 to £900 for the younger softer sorts with blues, over 14 months Lims with frame that will fill out getting to early stages of £1000 with similar sorts being able to be bought in the mid £900’s.

Native cattle away well with some size about biggest over £1000 to £1085. Not the biggest show of natives in but returns looked well for what was on show with mainly dairy bred sorts on sale.

 

25 Breeding Cattle

A good varied show today with Stock Bulls, Outfits & Incalf cattle available.

2 Stock Bulls peaked at £2700 for a Pedigree Limousin from J Feather, Oxenhope with another at £1650. Outfits were a very sharp trade prices peaked at £2200 for a young Simmental Cow with a Sim Heifer Calf from G Mellin, Oakworth who sold another at £2150. Ashfield farms, Lothersdale presented a Limousin with a Limousin Heifer selling at £2000.
