STORE LAMBS - WEDNESDAY 4TH SEPTEMBER 2019

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs & Gimmer Lambs. Forward: 8,685 Head, Overall av £65.23.

 

A cracking day in the main ring today with a packed ringside of bidders from almost the first pen until the last pen. The annual show and sale of Suffolk and Continental gimmers took place today with 16 pens of lambs presented for judging. The Champion pen of Continentals presented by Owain Chapman of Skyreholme proceeded to go on and sell for the sale high of £146. The Champion Suffolk’s presented by Robert Metcalfe of Brearton also headed some very strong prices with his first prize pen selling for £105.  Some particularly large annual consignments went under the hammer in particular Angus and John Dean of Threshfield who sold 320 Texel x Mule Gimmer Lambs to average £91 and Robert Metcalfe Brearton selling 281 Suffolk cross Mule gimmer lambs to average £78.

 

Store lambs in general were a very similar to a fortnight ago with best continental lambs still making mid to late £70’s with genuine store lambs either side of the £60 mark and long term sorts £53-£57. Mule wethers would be only pence up on the fortnight with 1402 Mule lambs averaging £54.64.
