Teenager Henry Bailey flies high with championship coup on poultry show debut at Skipton Making his first-ever foray into the poultry show arena, West Yorkshire 17-year-old Henry Bailey made an immediate impact when flying away with championship honours at 2020’s opening Craven Premier Poultry Spring show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart. (Sat, March 7) Henry, of Long Lee Hall Farm, above Keighley, ruled the roost with his first prize pen of large poultry, a trio of 28-week-old Rhode Island Red – a cockerel and two pullets already laying. They sold for £35.

John Hindle flies high again at Skipton Christmas poultry showcase Red Rose poultry breeder John Hindle, from Oswaldtwistle, ruled the roost yet again when once more exhibiting the champion pen of birds at the Craven Premier Poultry Christmas show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart. (Sat, Dec 14) Mr Hindle has been a high flier at all three of the mart’s poultry shows this year, standing champion at the Spring fixture with White Wyandottes and reserve champion with Light Sussex at the autumn highlight.

Hitchen ducks head pecking order at CCM Skipton autumn poultry highlight Calderdale poultry breeder Stephen Hitchen, from Ludendenfoot, Halifax, ruled the roost when sending out the champions at the autumn Craven Premier Poultry show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart. (Saturday, September 7) He clinched another title at the North Yorkshire venue with his first prize pen of waterfowl, a trio of 2019 Silver Appleyard ducks, which sold for £40.

John Hindle puts a feather in his cap at Skipton Spring poultry showcase Lancashire’s John Hindle won his first-ever Craven Feather Auctions championship at the Spring show and sale of poultry and waterfowl at Skipton Auction Mart. (Saturday, March 9) Mr Hindle, from Oswaldtwistle, has picked up first prizes in the past and was reserve champion at the show last September, but went one better this time. His trio of White Wyandottes was plucked out by judge Andrew Fisher, of Pateley Bridge, and went on to sell for £35.

David Pownall champion again at Skipton Christmas poultry showcase Derbyshire’s David Pownall won his second Craven Feather Auctions championship of the year at the annual Christmas show and sale of poultry and waterfowl staged at Skipton Auction Mart. (Sat, Dec 8) Mr Pownall, of Riverside Cottage, Old Glossop, was following up on his title-winning success at the previous show in September, again with a pair of 2018 White Wyandotte bantams, out of top show stock.

(Sat, Sept 8) Mr Pownall, of Riverside Cottage, Old Glossop, secured another Skipton title – he won his first at the North Yorkshire venue in 2013 – with a pair of 2018 White Wyandotte bantams, out of top show stock and later sold for £70.

Cononley breeder again crowned Craven Feather Auctions champion Cononley’s David Brewer again ruled the roost when presenting the champion trio of Rhode Island Reds - a cockerel and two pullets, all 2017-born – at the Craven Feather Auctions Christmas show of poultry and waterfowl staged at Skipton Auction Mart (Sat, Dec 9) The 20-year-old, who is studying primary education at Leeds Beckett University, was repeating his championship-winning success at the previous show in September, then with a trio of White Silkies.

It’s cheers all round as David Brewer wins Skipton poultry championship Poultry made a welcome return to the exhibition arena at Skipton Auction when the latest Craven Feather Auctions show and sale produced a championship success for up-and-coming 19-year-old local breeder, Cononley’s David Brewer. (Sat, Sept 2) He clinched the title with his first prize large fowl pen, a trio of 2017-born White Silkies, a cock and two pullets, which went on to achieve the day’s top price of £120.
