MULE GIMMERS - TUESDAY 8TH SEPTEMBER 2020

Great Annual Show & Sale of North of England Mule Ewe Lambs on behalf of NEMSA Members. SOLD: 7,045 head at an overall average of £104.81 per head (+14.06) CCM Auctions conducted their opening Fortnightly Show and Sale of NEMSA members Mule Gimmer Lambs at Skipton Auction Mart, North Yorkshire on Tuesday 8th September with a wonderful entry of over 7,000 forward for sale.

Much improved trade at Skipton NEMSA ewe lambs opener as defending champions retain titles The keynote opening North of England Mule gimmer lamb sale at Skipton Auction Mart produced better than anticipated trade when the resounding turnout of 7,045 head successfully sold to an overall average of £104.81 per head, up a solid £14.06 on the year. SHEARLING GIMMERS - TUESDAY 25TH AUGUST 2020

Forward: 4,893 head of Gimmer Shearlings A large show of Gimmer Shearlings forward today for our Annual Show & Sale and all classes got away to a fast selling trade with the 4893 head averaging £152.05 across all breeds. The morning set off with Continental and Suffolk crosses sold first, and the quality types and strong Texel cross Mules were easily sold with prices around £10 up on the year as buyers were keen for this class of sheep, but the commercial types of sheep were forward in greater numbers and not as keenly sought.

Solid start for CCM Skipton’s 2020 breeding sheep season Skipton Auction Mart’s opening prize show and sale of gimmer shearlings, the traditional launch fixture for its annual breeding sheep season, attracted an increased turnout of 4,893 head, over 1,850 more than 2019, with all classes getting away to a fast selling trade when averaging £152.05 per head across all breeds, again a significant increase on the previous year’s £139.84. (Tuesday, August 25)

SALE OF BREEDING SHEEP & RAMS. Forward: 543 Breeding Sheep inc 71 Rams. Another decent entry for our regular early season breeding sheep sales with ewes and shearlings selling once again to a very fast trade. Suffolk and Continental Ewes saw strong prices, whilst Mules of all classes found a very ready following. A decent number of rams on offer as this early sale continues to grow in stature, and there was an offering of good tups for commercial use with the better end on the day £300 to £500.

Sheep shearing and lambs dosing season in full swing North of England Mule sheep breeders, in common with others across the nation, are busy with their annual summer flock care campaign. The sheep shearing season is now in full swing, while fast-growing new season lambs are being gathered in for treatments that will stand them in good stead for this year’s autumn sales. Many breeders continue to immunise with Heptavac-P, a recognised high health multi-purpose vaccine.

BREEDING SHEEP - TUESDAY 19TH MAY 2020

Weekly Sale of Geld Gimmer Hoggs & Hoggs, Shlgs & Ewes with Lambs at Foot. Forward: 837 Breeding Sheep. Another decent entry of breeding sheep for our weekly sale and a nice trade generally ensued, despite several customers reporting grass scarce. Some excellent prices for strong Continental and Suffolk cross Hoggs with Nigel Peacock from Thirsk making £220 on 5 occasions, whilst Simon Bennett made £210 twice and £208 with Hogg Singles, and Ellie Crisp made £200 of Texel Hoggs with Singles. Mule Hoggs and lambs were a more variable trade, and not just as sharp as last week to be fair, J Verity & Son from Middlesmoor topped the trade at £200, with the main of them making £150 to £185.

Solid trade and NHS charity highlight at Skipton breeding sheep annual fixture Many quality yearly consignments were again seen among the 1,201 breeding sheep forward at Skipton Auction Mart’s annual sale of geld gimmer hoggs and hoggs with lambs at foot, the second week they were able to be sold again at UK marts.(Tues, May 5)

BFL FEMALES - WEDNESDAY 12TH FEBRUARY 2020

The Winter sale of Blue Faced Leicester females brought a select entry from good local breeders with excellent crossing lines. Taking the championship was John Mason of Oddacres when his Micklaw sired gimmer hogg took the eye of show judge Ashley Caton. It later sold for £450 to JR Lancaster in Bordley. Top of the shop price wise was Kevin Wilson of Blubberhouses with his F1 Big head sired Gimmer hogg selling at £550 to Mrs J Pennell of Darlington.
