Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs
Forward: 6,737 Head, Overall av £55.67
The fortnightly sale of Store Sheep held at CCM Skipton on Wednesday saw an increase in trade from the last sale as more grass and winter keep comes available and buyers turned out in force from across England and Wales to source lambs from the large entry on offer. Another big show of 2,315 Mule & Masham Wethers were good to sell, trade being £3 to £4 stronger than the last sale, especially for the strongest end. A top price for Mule lambs of £64 was achieved by W Furniss & Sons for their pen of 51 head, all other stronger end were £55 plus. Horned lambs were out in number again, strong sorts were good to sell but smaller lambs were a shade easier.
The Suffolk & Continental Lambs also saw the stronger types better to sell, Medium keep lambs were a much stronger trade although some long keep lambs were no dearer.
CCM Auctions conducted their end of season breeding sheep sale on Tuesday at Skipton Mart. A tidy entry of sheep saw breeding ewes sell to a total clearance whilst the ram sale was well attended but buyers were selective for the quality.
Next sale of all classes of Breeding Sheep is on Wednesday 13th November.
Entries by Monday 4th November
Craven Dairy Auction (22 head)
Harder work throughout today with the milk cheques starting to make a dent in the buyers pockets with cattle less right the way through the sale. Top end struggled to make record prices with Robert Crisp and Jeremy Taylor enjoying the best of the trade reaching £1860 for some strong heifers. Middle of the road heifers were good to sell just not to a massive price. With all animals averaging £1641, a straight trade with buyers and sellers satisfied with the outcome in the dairy industry’s current difficult trading conditions.
