STORE CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 17TH DECEMBER 2014

MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 17th DECEMBER 2014. Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle. Forward: 188 Head of Cattle comprising 65 Young Bulls, 118 Bullocks & Heifers and 5 Breeding Cattle. At the final sale of 2014 there was a nice entry of cattle, but more encouraging was the volume of buyers who were all eager for stock. Cattle were good to sell and this bodes wells for the New Year Sale on Wednesday 7th January for which entries already total 1,000 head. Total anticipated entry of 1,250 head.

DAIRY & CALVES - MONDAY 15TH DECEMBER 2014

Craven Dairy Auction (23 head) A small show of dairy cattle with just 16 down the shippon, but a good show nonetheless. Judging was undertaken by regular supporter Robin Jennings from South Stainley taking the pressure of going from showing to judging and didn’t deliberate long over the entrants picking a David and Suzy Lawson heifer that was giving 20 litres and calved 21 days, the champion then proceeded to take top price of the day £2020 to Wick Williams, Nantwich.

INLAMB PEDIGREE SHEEP - SATURDAY 13TH DECEMBER 2014

Annual Winter sale of Inlamb Pedigree Texel & Beltex Sheep followed by 2 dispersal sales from John Wood & David Williams. A good entry of sheep today for the Winter sale at Skipton drew a large company of buyers and the Lingfield sale ring was full to capacity at times during the day. There were 55 separate successful purchasers during the sale and some other left empty handed which shows the growing popularity of this sale which is in its 22nd year.

BREEDING SHEEP - SATURDAY 13TH DECEMBER BELTEX PRESS

Stuart Currie’s Beautry pedigree flock in Rathmell secured both championship and top price honours at the Northern Beltex Society’s third winter show and sale of pedigree in-lamb ewes at Skipton Auction Mart. (Sat, Dec 13) Mr Currie’s February-born shearling ewe, Beautry Tania, is a daughter of his top-performing ram, Rathbone Leader, who has been responsible for multiple show champions, including a number at Skipton. He has sired shearling rams to 9,000gns, shearling ewes to 4,500gns and ram lambs to 3,000gns.

BREEDING SHEEP - SATURDAY 13TH DECEMBER TEXEL PRESS

Procters Farm lands another Skipton Texel title win Procters Farm in Slaidburn continued to dominate the 2014 Texel sheep show arena at Skipton Auction Mart when exhibiting the supreme champion at the 22nd annual Northern Area Texel Sheep Breeders’ winter show and sale of pedigree in-lamb females. (Sat, Dec 13)

CHRISTMAS POULTRY - SATURDAY 13TH DECEMBER PRESS

Ex-auctioneer is top price champion at Skipton poultry auction Retired auctioneer-turned-poultry showman Trevor Addison headed the pecking order when presenting the supreme champion pair of Large White Wyandotte at the Craven Feather Auction Christmas show at Skipton Auction Mart. (Sat, Dec 13) Mr Addison and his wife Rosie, of Barnard Castle, saw their 2014-hatched title winners – a cockerel and a pullet home-bred from prize-winning stock – first win the large fowl show class, before being chosen as overall champions by show judge Reece Jowett, of Queensbury, who though only 16 is already a well-known poultry dealer and regular buyer at Skipton.

STORE LAMBS - WEDNESDAY 10TH DECEMBER 2014

A good show of lambs with trade following the recent rise in the primestock prices, with all types and sizes receiving a better trade. Mule lambs saw a marked improvement with the average jumping £4 on the fortnight and horned lambs £7 up though a stronger show was forward. Today was also the annual show of the Addingham Sheep Breeders Charity Mule Wether Sale in aid of Manorlands hospice. Coming out victorious this year was Joe and George Throup of Chelker. Results and Prices are shown at the bottom.

STIRKS & WEANED CALVES - SATURDAY 6th DECEMBER

MARKET REPORT – SATURDAY 6th DECEMBER 2014. Monthly Sale of Stirks, Weaned Calves and Young Store Cattle. Forward: 108 head. Comprising: 103 Stirks and Young Store Cattle, 2 Alpacas and 3 Jenny Donkeys. CCM Auctions conducted their Monthly Sale of Stirks and Weaned Calves at Skipton on Saturday. A smaller show than last month that were mainly made up of younger types of weaned calves attracted a good company buyers and a total clearance was effected.

MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 3rd DECEMBER 2014. Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle. Forward: 394 head of cattle, Comprising: 177 Young Feeding Bulls, 210 Bullocks & Heifers, 7 Feeding Cows. A large show of cattle for the time of year met with a packed ringside and most classes were easily cleared to a fast selling trade as feeders look to keep sheds full. Strong bullocks and Heifers were especially well sought after, whilst good commercial heifers rising a year old found plenty of favour at the ringside.

Feeders out in force at Skipton festive store cattle highlight The annual Christmas store cattle shows at Skipton Auction Mart attracted a plentiful turnout for the time of year of 394 head, which were sold at a packed ringside, with most classes easily cleared to a fast-selling trade, as feeders sought to keep their sheds full over the festive period. All prize winners easily made into four figures.
