East Anglian coup at Skipton Hampshire Down highlight There was success for East Anglia at the Hampshire Down Sheep Breeders; Association North East Region ewe and ram show and sale staged at Skipton Auction Mart. (Friday, August 31) Taking the supreme championship following the long journey north to exhibit at the North Yorkshire venue for the first time was the first prize shearling ram and male champion from Norfolk’s Andrew Jones and his two daughters, 21-year-old Eleanor, and Annabel, 18, who run the Morley flock at Morley St Botolph, Wymondham.

CCM Auctions conducted an on-farm dispersal sale of Livestock & Machinery at Far Cappleside, Rathmell, Settle on Thursday 30th August upon instructions of AB&BH Procter. On a fine summers afternoon a huge crowd gathered from far and wide to bid for the varied range of items.

MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 29TH August 2018 Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle Forward: 539 head of cattle Comprising: 522 Feeding Cattle (57 Young Bulls, 25 Beef Feeding Cows, 440 Bullocks & Heifers) & 17 Breeding Cattle. Autumn calves now coming forward and with bulls and short supply, these are very good trade particularly if in forward condition. Mason and Gardner of Chapel le Dale headed up the October 2017 born bulls at £1200 and £1160 with a British Blue and Limousin cross. A handful of August bulls and late spring 2017 born bulls. £1420 for a Blue cross from JM Townsend of Laneshawbridge and £1400 for a July Blue Cross

SUFFOLK RAMS - WEDNESDAY 22ND AUGUST 2018

Suffolk Rams The early sale of Suffolk rams saw a sizeable crowd around the pens and inside the ring. A 70% clearance rate was received by the breeders today. The Champion in the Pre-Sale Show was a tremendous ram lamb presented by Geoff Richmond of Goosnargh selling for 520gns to James Foster of Bolton Abbey.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs & Breeding Sheep Forward: 6,357 Head, Overall av £58.23 A good sale today with the largest show of the season so far. More customers around the country are finally reporting grass growth and so there was a wider geographical spread of customers today with more Eastern and Southern buyers in attendance and Welsh buyers also present in larger numbers.

GIMMER SHEARLINGS - TUESDAY 21ST AUGUST 2018

Forward: 3,480 head of Gimmer Shearlings CCM Auctions conducted their Great Annual Prize Sale of Gimmer Shearlings at Skipton on Tuesday, with a nice entry of sheep put forward for sale. Continental sired sheep were a sharp trade, and well in front of most vendors expectations, with strong framed, clean headed sheep finding a very strong enquiry from the ringside, and the average showing a rise on the year.

CALVES - MONDAY 20TH AUGUST 2018

Rearing Calves to £420 (86) B&W av £58.38 Cont av £278.48 Native av £202.46 A good number of calves forward today for the August calf show and a good straight trade was had right throughout the sale. Fred Houseman took the best in show with a cracker of a British Blue bull by Genus Sire Dev which eventually sold for £420. Continental bulls were a straight trade throughout with a section average of £333.57 which included a run of plain, younger bulls easing the average overall.

Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle Forward: 311 head of cattle Comprising: 302 Feeding Cattle (58 Young Bulls, 13 Beef Feeding Cows, 231 Bullocks & Heifers) & 9 Breeding Cattle. Little change in the feeding bull trade. Last of the 2017 spring born bulls in the correct age spec got away well, into £1000+. Strong bulls over 12 months in forward condition got away in a similar value with the best £1200. A small show of feeding cows were certainly a sharper trade and the average reflecting this as well.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs & Breeding Sheep Forward: 4,984 Head, 4788 Store Lambs av £60.26. 196 Breeding Sheep. 4788 store lambs through the ring with a definite better stamp of lamb on offer today compared with a fortnight ago. The pre sale Beltex x store lamb sale was won by the Moorhouse family of Dacre with a pen of 25 selling for £81.50. On the whole beltex lambs saw an improved trade with numerous pens between £68- £79 and plenty of buyers to take them there.
