STORE & BREEDING CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER 2018

Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle. Forward: 711 head of cattle. Comprising: 698 Feeding Cattle (54 Young Bulls, 40 Beef Feeding Cows, 604 Bullocks & Heifers) & 13 Breeding Cattle. Buyers looking for strong bulls which met a similar trade with the sale headed up by a pen of short keep pure limousin from Procters Farm at 12 months £1340. November 2017 bulls headed by KA&HL Fawcett with a Lim x at £1270. The mixed entry of sizes and ages caused buyers to be selective on quality and mixing cattle. Yet again a large show of Bullocks and Heifers through the ring today with strong cattle remaining a healthy trade considering the number on offer. Younger and hard summered cattle were more numerous, and their trade eased slightly, however a number of fresh faces helped move the large numbers on offer.

CCM Auctions conducted the Northern Area Texel Sheep Breeders Club Sale at Skipton Mart on Thursday 20th and Friday 21st September 2018 – Quality was in abundance again at the NATSB Texel Sale held at Skipton Auction Mart, which saw 37 sheep sold at 4 figure prices, and solid averages with the Shearling Rams levelling at £757.36 and Ram Lambs £402.34 as this sale once again attracted a huge crowd of buyers and a fast selling trade.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs & Breeding Sheep Forward: 6117 Head, Overall av £57.68 A relatively similar trade on last fortnight on paper however in reality longer keep lambs would be a shade cheaper with more buyers on better fleshed types. Mules wethers saw a good steady trade throughout the day with some short keep pens from Rayner, Pateley Bridge at £62.5 and Rosemary Berry, Cowling at £61.5. Longer keep mules were harder to place which reflected a straight average of £54.31.

MARKET REPORT – TUESDAY 12th SEPTEMBER 2017 Forward: 4280 Head comp: 4241 Ewes & Shearlings & 39 Pedigree Charollais CCM Auctions held their fortnightly sale of Gimmer Shearlings and Breeding Ewes at Skipton Mart on Tuesday. A larger show of shearlings than normal for the time of year met with a stronger trade than many expected, with strong sorts and smart sorts receiving keen bidding and would see prices stronger than the previous sale.

Red Rose blooms at Skipton shearling gimmer showcase Red Rose exhibitors landed the principal honours in the two show classes staged at Skipton Auction Mart’s second annual shearling gimmer fixture. (Tues, Sept 18) First prize in the Mules show fell to Thomas and Sheila Binns, of Hecklin Farm, Downham, with a pen of ten, which has been purchased as gimmer lambs at the previous year’s North of England Mule Sheep Association (NEMSA) autumn sales, which the Binns family has been supporting for more than 20 years.

John Stott Jnr claims 700gns to price at 2018 Skipton Charollais rams showcase Cumbrian Charollais sheep breeder John Stott Jnr, who runs the Kingsland pedigree flock in Crosscrake, Stainton, near Kendal, claimed top price of 700gns at the British Charollais Sheep Society’s annual show and sale of commercial rams at Skipton Auction Mart. (Tues, Sept 18) He achieved it with a home-bred shearling ram, one of February, 2017, born twins by a sire from the Marwood family’s renowned Foulrice flock, himself by the highly regarded Marwood tup, Dalby Mount Aloe. The top price performer was claimed by J Riley & Son, of Castleford.

Rearing Calves to £500 (76) B&W av £71.11 Cont av £304.59 Native av £158.35 76 calves through the door this morning with a trade slightly easier in places. Natives saw a steady trade, with AA bulls and heifers averaging nicely at £195 and £170 respectively. British Blue bulls saw some strong competition with the best calf seen in the market for quite a while sold for £500, with other straight BB bulls selling regularly between £370 to £415.
