DAIRY & CALVES - MONDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER 2015

Craven Dairy Auction (40 head) Exactly 40 Dairy Cattle forward with a wide variety of goods on offer from Dispersal Cows, Incalf Heifers, Top quality newly calved heifers to Heifer Calves. The variety of goods was met by a varied trade, which felt a lot harder than it looks. David Lawson’s pre sale Champion rightly took the top price of £2000 selling to regular Skipton supporters Alf and Andrew Townsend. Robin Jennings took the second top price at £1620 with his third prize heifer from his Stainbank herd.

Incalf heifers again look the dearest of the lot averaging £1270 and topping at £1400 for an Incalf heifer from I Olivers & Partners, Darley.  Joss Lancaster was well supported with some 5 week old Holstein heifer calves averaging just shy of £300.

A handy trade right through with a number to match. Black and whites remain a healthy trade at £102.45 for some good entries from Michael Heron, Bramhope and Hartley’s of Bolton Abbey taking the high prices with middle of the road calves everywhere around the £100 mark.

Continentals would look a touch easier but for the age and stamp of calf forward I believe a good trade was had here also with Fred Houseman and Richard Shuttleworth taking the honours in the Bull and Heifer prices with £455 and £400 in their respected sections.

Natives again forging ahead with some fortnight old angus calves from Michael Heron making £285 and £275 with Fort’s of Glusburn topping overall at £315 for a good bull.

Take into account ages and prices when making a comparison.
