Prime Sheep

Numbers slightly tighter as expected this week, but trade up on the week, with lambs averaging 172p across the board, a nice result considering 40% of the entry were either Mule Masham or Horned Lambs with Cheviots extra to these. Steve Dorey topped the Mules/Mashams  at 175.5p with with a pen weighing 49kg selling for £86 to Swaledale Foods. Better Mules generally about £27-£28 over the weight. In addition to the Mule and Horned lambs, there are more Cheviot type lambs coming forward now, best of these from Tony Kiernan of Longridge, a run of 70 Cheviots weighing 42kg at £75 each, topping at 178.6p.

Lowland lambs were a sharp trade again, a nice fleshed commercial handy weight lambs 175p-190p, something a shade smarter was either side of 200p, whilst the best end of Beltex types were good to sell once again. Top of the shop was Henry Atkinson with a super pen of 10 Beltex crosses weighing 39kg selling for £114 each to Vivers Scotlamb. Kevin Marshall from Darley also has joint top price of £114 per head selling to A Atkinson for Hartshead Meat Co.
