41 Dairy

Well that’s the last sale of 2020 all wrapped up. Thanks to all vendors and purchasers during the year that have been to see us and made our sales go from strength to strength.

Today we had a total clearance with 41 black and whites sold through the ring.

In the fortnightly sale trade topped at £2020 for a Pledge heifer from David, Margaret and Jennie Booth selling to Sowray Brothers of Bishop Thornton. Next in line at £1900 was one of four consigned by Peter Waring going to John Howard an early November calver, bred in the Crosbygrange herd of the Smith’s at Northallerton. Two milky cows giving over 40kg per day sold from Peter Waring and Alan Goldie respectively to £1800 and £1750 with the nine milkers in the regular sale averaging £1777.

We then welcomed a second consignment from brothers Paul and Robert Lange from near Slingsby, Malton who are retiring from dairying - a large crowd gathered to see their 32 lots many of which were a long time calved and due next Spring as well as a third (10) being in their fifth lactation or more- which shows the youthfulness and wearability of the consignment. Lot 52 a third calver giving over 40kg and October calved sold for £1900, being one of 9 heading over the hill to Andrew Avison in Coverdale, she was closely followed by Lot 79 a second calver due again in February who heads at £1850 to Messrs Parker, Emley. The 32 dispersal cows and heifers averaged £1311.
