3,707 Prime Sheep

A similar show of lambs were forward for sale and they were, as predicted, better to sell than last week, and with 17 active buyers stood at the ringside, full market value on the day was achieved for all classes, with an SQQ average of 160.4p and overall average of 156.7p. A quick scan through the EBLEX website shows this compares very favorably on the day locally.

The smart lambs created a vast amount of interest as usual at Skipton and the prices achieved at the top end were as follows, £108 Ellis Bros, £105 James Garth & Son, £97(x2) Henry Atkinson, £96 MB Townley, £91 FW&JM Eddington, £90 Frankland Farms, whilst pence per kilo tops were 256.1p James Garth & Son, 242.5p 225.6p 200.0p Henry Atkinson, 229.8p Ellis Bros, 216.7p FW&JM Eddington,  218.2p 217.9p 210.3p MB Townley, 217.9p B Lund, 217.1p JS Eddleston, 215.0p 202.7p 202.6p F&R Fielden, 214.3p 200.0p Frankland Farms and 205.4p 202.8p J&J Garnett. Many more of this type of lamb can be accommodated with no shortage of buyers looking to source them. Contact Ted Ogden to discuss marketing.

The commercial lambs, especially the 38kg to 42kg weights, and anything farm assured in the mainstream weight range was keenly contested, with 160p to 170p common place for a well fleshed first cross continental, whilst commercial types sold at 150p to 160p. Heavy lambs were also better to sell on the week, with nice sorts 150p to 160p.

A massive show of over 900 ewes again met a keen ringside of customers and a fast selling trade. Heavy ewes again a nice trade.

41 Rearing Calves to £460

B&W av £56 Cont av £364.50 Native av £171.11

Fewer calves forward today with some big shows in previous weeks, however trade remained strong with black and whites just a touch easier. Blues once again good to sell with anything well put together reaching nicely into the late £300’s and topping at £460 for a blue bull from Church Farm Enterprises. Angus buyers left under stocked after a small number of calves were forward though Michael Heron and Hartley’s of Bolton Abbey had some good calves in making £195 of a heifer and £245 of a strong Angus bull.

Don’t forget 95% of these Calves are 1 ½ month old or younger.
