3,977 Prime Sheep comprising 3,593 Prime Lambs & 384 Cast Ewes & Rams

A large rise in numbers today with 700 extra lambs penned for sale on the week and a total entry of 3,977 sheep. Trade was funny too, with heavies good to sell, handyweights and lightweights good to sell, but the smart lambs weren’t as sharp as last week, with some buyers not appearing as keen for them, and the better end mainly 220p to 250p, topping at 280.5p/kg.

Handy weight lowland lambs were a good trade again with prices very similar on the week, 190p to 210p, commercial sorts 180p, heavy lambs were keenly bid for and again mainly sold from late 80’s to mid 90’s.

Mule lambs £28-£30 over, few best pens £32 over, whilst lightweight horned wethers were mainly 150p to 165p for the nice meat.

Ewes sold well, and continued along similar lines to last week.

Dairy av £65.84 Cont av £296.3 Native av £250

A mixed trade for the last sale of the season with Natives and Best Continental bulls a nice trade throughout, however heifers and straight continental bulls were harder to place with a much more selective ringside than seen of late. Always a strange sale leading up to Christmas with some buyers bulk buying and some refraining till the new year, despite this a straight trade on the whole was received for today’s offering.
