Another increase in the prime lamb entry, and definitely a change in the market place as processors look to secure the well finished lambs and willing to bid fairly well for them, whilst shying away from those lambs that lack finish. The smart end today were anywhere from 180p to 220p, topping at 235p for a lovely pen from Frank & Robert Fielden of Todmorden, the purchasers were Vivers Scotlamb. The nicely fleshed first crossed continental type lambs were 165p to 175p, occasionally a little more, but a more commercial lamb was from 150p to 160p. The Mule Wether lambs also fell in price this week by around £2 to £4 per head.

Cast Ewes were a very similar trade on the week, with heavy ewes again in strong demand and short of requirements.

Skipton Calf show was once again a huge success with a large ringside of buyers making a fantastic trade in all sectors with a trade not seen since the spring. Once again the Sowray Family of Bishop Thornton struck gold with a fantastic Blue Bull at 41 Days old making a record breaking £700, Yes that’s right and heading its way to the east coast. Other noted vendors were the Houseman’s  of Burton Leonard and Colin Whitelock of Gargrave both making big prices with some fantastic continental calves.

Black and Whites were also good to sell with a number of buyers on the hunt for strong calves making for the second week in a row an average over £70 and to a high of £140 for a ¾ Friesian from JP&KE Hartley of Bolton Abbey.
