Calves were a stronger a trade than last week with a couple of new faces putting some impetus into the bidding. The better end of the black and whites were hard fought over with John Blackwell of Gargrave receiving the highest price of £165 for his Friesian entry. In the continentals Richard Spence of Sutton in Craven topped the day’s trading with a strong Limousin Bull at £450 with the continental heifers being topped by Martyn Jennings with a strong blue heifer selling to £360.

A measure of the trade was that the average age of all calves sold today was 38 days.
