Rearing Calves to £420 (86)

B&W av £58.38 Cont av £278.48 Native av £202.46

A good number of calves forward today for the August calf show and a good straight trade was had right throughout the sale. Fred Houseman took the best in show with a cracker of a British Blue bull by Genus Sire Dev which eventually sold for £420. Continental bulls were a straight trade throughout with a section average of £333.57 which included a run of plain, younger bulls easing the average overall.

Native bulls were a particularly healthy trade with James Dugdale of Stackhouse receiving £325 for his first prize consignment and a section average of £250.88. Native heifers weren’t quite the quality as the bulls however a straight price of £135 - £145 was realised for anything with potential.

Black and whites saw some strong bidding on the better end with anything with flesh nicely over the £100 mark with a cracker from Marcas Chadwick at £135.

Heifers were certainly buyable today best calves remained relatively good to sell between £300- £370 however a run of 10 of straight younger calves between £130 and £260 easing the average back to £225 for blue heifers.

NB Next Week is the August Bull Sale in the Dairy Ring alongside the Craven Dairy Sale.
