1541 Prime Sheep comprising 267 Prime Lambs, 1021 Prime Hoggs & 253 Cast Ewes & Rams

Spring lambs forward in similar numbers today but again a fairly mixed offering including some inside fed pet lambs. Todays sale started with the charity auction of a prime lamb to mark the official opening of our new sale rings by NFU President, Minette Batters, the lamb was donated by Messrs Walmsley of Haverah Park and weighing 40kg, it sold for £215 to Keelham Farm Shop with the proceeds going to RABI. The best end consistently £3 per kilo plus upto 351p twice, first from D&A Livestock selling to Vivers Scotlamb, and then again from Peter Houseman selling to Yorkshire Halal Meat Suppliers. D&A Livestock sold at 348p and 342p both to Vivers Scotlamb, Chris Slinger 346p to Yorkshire Halal and Tim Robinson 340p to Vivers Scotlamb.

Per head, lambs sold to £155.50 from John Nutter of Hurst Green purchased by Andrew Atkinson, the same vendor selling at £152 to Swaledale Foods and £150 to Kendalls Farm Butchers. Mark Evans sold twice at £152, first to Keelham Farmshop and second to Swaledale Foods and also at £150 to Kendalls Farm Butchers. Tim Robinson also sold at £150 to Vivers Scotlamb.

Hoggs were a very end of season affair, best could make 250p to 280p, topping at 290p form H Metcalf, Silsden. Others at 283p J Watson, 271p 270p F Webster, 268p GW Thackray, 266p KW Gamble, 264p PW Simpson. In the lump, tops of £150 from Davis Pratt, £145 and £142 twice J Watson, £144 F Webster. Anything well fleshed was a sharp trade, but those lacking meat are now discounted from previous weeks.

Ewes although not forward in the same numbers as recent weeks could still just about hold their value form the last few weeks.
