Forward: 47 Prime cattle comprising 28 Clean Cattle (under 30 mos), 1 Clean Cattle (over 30 mos) & 18 Cast Cattle. 2,743 Prime Sheep comprising 2413 Prime Hoggs, 330 Cast Ewes, Rams & Goats. 54 Rearing Calves. 7 Dairy. 8 Loads of produce.

 





Prime Cattle (under 30 mos)

Edward and John Parkinson of Dunsop Bridge continued where they left off last week with once again the top selling animal with a 600kg British Blue cross heifer which sold to Jeff Burrow for 253.5p/kg or £1521. Mesrs JW Stockdale&Sons of Burnsall produced the second highest gross price with a homebred 590kg Limousin cross heifer selling to Keelham Farm Shop of Skipton for 248.5p/kg or £1466. Amongst the highest price per kg prices was Countrystyle Meats Ltd of Lancaster who secured the highest priced steer a 565kg Limousin cross heifer from RT&J Critchley&Son of Hutton for 241.5p/kg or £1364. Joint leading buyer with 4 was Robertshaws Farm Shop alongside Countrystyle Meats and Keelham Farm Shop. A pen of Stabaliser steers in the TB Exempt section averaged £952 for WPP Farming of Hunton.

2,743 Prime Sheep comprising 2413 Prime Hoggs, 330 Cast Ewes, Rams & Goats

A very mixed show of 2400 lambs forward for sale today with less of the very smart end and more Mule/Masham/Hill Bred types, having said that, the average stands at 219p/kg right through which is a great result on the day. MR Davis from Eldroth took top price per kilo today at 295p/kg (42kg £124) to Vivers Scotlamb. John Thwaite from Horton in Craven donated a lamb to the Luke Mortimer Fund and this made 293p or £135 purchased by The Hartshead Meat Co, Mossley. Jeff Burrow made 290p (41kg £119) again to Hartshead Meats. Kevin Marshall from Dacre was in the money at 290p too with 41kg also at £119 to Vivers Scotlamb. Mark Evans from Steeton took top price per head with Suffolks to £139 selling to Joe Bosworth, and in addition to John Thwaite’s lamb at £135, DA Wilcock & Sons, Wigan made £127 on two occasions to Joe Bosworth & Hartshead Meat Co. Ellis Bros Addingham Moorside also made £127, J Baines Gisburn sold to £125.
The commercial handyweight lowland lambs were about 5p/kg dearer on the week, with straight 41/43kg lambs £95-£100. Heavies were short of requirements, the 46kg to 52kg weight bracket averaged 217p/kg, with these weights being £4-£5 each dearer on the week.
The Mule and Masham Lambs were a great trade, Mashams to 216.3p/kg from Steve Dorey av 214p, whilst Mules were to 217p form CD&RF Kitching Threshfield av 208p.
Ewes were a straight trade again and a solid average of £85.54 per head. Stronger end £120 to £130, tops from F Reeday & Son, Mules to £97.50 av £88, and best hill sheep to £82.50 and Swales to £77.50.

A tremendous trade today for a mixed show of calves! Blue Bulls to top at £445 with an overall Blue Bull average of £325, with the range from £230 up to £445 for a cracking calf off of Colin Whitelock.  Blue Heifers topped at £385 for a belter of a calf of Shaun Sowray with an overall Heifer breed average of 251. Best end getting away from £270-£385 and mediums £220+ with the smallest early £200s

Limi heifers off to a flyer with the best going to be made into cows topping at £360 coming to an overall average of £256. Anything with good frame to turn into a suckler cow going onto £290+ with the more dairy sorts either side of £250 with the odd bobby calf less.

B+W calves avg £62 today with a pur BF from G Pickersgill and son topping at £105 and anything with size £60+

7  Dairy

The second sale in the month saw a couple of heifers from Peter Baul’s Ravensgate herd hit the highlights from an entry of 7 head. The first prize heifer was Ravensgate Symion Muscome, calved 20 days and on 28 litres, out of a Woodmarsh Topshot cow who’s dam had given 3 yields of over 10,000 litres she sold for £2400. Messrs Bauls second offering also came from the Muscome family with Ravensgate Elias Muscome with a PLI£283, she sold for £2300. Messrs Bell from Cowling presented a nice pedigree heifer calved 3 weeks on 27 litres selling at £1700, and Robert Crisp had a very fresh commercial heifer at £1600. A mid lactation heifer from Messrs GW Leggott, North Yorkshire sold at £1450.
