Prime Cattle (under 30 mos)

Monthly Show

At the November Prime Show another excellent selection of show cattle saw Ben Townsend at the top of the line with a 510kg Limousin cross heifer which sold to RC Binns of Saltaire for 284.5p/kg or £1451. A good attendance of retail and wholesale customers ensured that cattle were a good trade for both show and commercial types with the local retail trade represented by Dick Binns, Saltaire, Keelham Farm Shop Skipton and Thornton, Stanforths Butchers, Skipton, Paul Ellison of Cullingworth, Charlie Clough of Queensbury.  Wholesale Companies in attendance were J&E Medcalf of Halifax and T Shepherdson of Marsden.

Cull Cow Prices

Cast cattle a sharper trade but with a show that comprised 85% dairies and a shortage of finish the recorded average does not convey the this improvement. Cast cattle need to be marketed shortly to avoid a reducing demand brought on by plant concentration on clean cattle as Christmas approaches.

4,065 Prime Sheep

An increased show of both lambs and ewes met with a stronger trade on the week. The Monthly Prime Show was well supported with Trevor & Clive Robinson again being victorious when their pen of 44kg Lambs were given the rosette by todays judge Mr James Blenkhorn, buyer for Riley Bros, Burnley. They later sold at £95 to Kitson Butchers of Northallerton. It was Richard & Mark Ireland that led the sale with Texel lambs at £99 purchased by MN Alam for Lancashire Direct Halal Meat. Commercial lambs were noticeably dearer on the week, export types 5p dearer, whilst Mule and Hill bred lambs together wioth heavy lambs would be £5 dearer on the week. Ewes generally now seeing numbers tighter countrywide and trade beginning to warm up again.
