Prime Cattle (under 30 mos)

Wholesale Butchers J&E Medcalf of Halifax were in good order at the final sale of 2018 securing the highest grossing animals from both sections. Top call was a 675kg homebred British Blue heifer sold by Mesrs SM Russell&Son of Rough Holden making £1549 (229.5p/kg) whilst the highest gross priced steer came from Simon Bennett of Silsden Moor, a Limousin cross which made £1369 or 224.5p/kg. The highest priced p/kg animal was a 565kg British Blue cross heifer sold by Mesrs CD&RF Kitching of Threshfield to livestock buyer Mick Etherington for 249.5p/kg or £1409.

 

PLEASE NOTE: From next week, the sale of cattle will commence at 12noon, with sheep commencing at 1pm. The first ballot for lambs will be expanded to 110 pens, then pens 111 onwards will be sold in order of arrival. For more details speak to Ted

3,592 Prime Sheep comprising 3281 Prime Lambs & 311 Cast Ewes & Rams

A cracking end to the year of trading prime sheep at Skipton with the strength of the market system showing through today to produce an overall average of 199p/kg. The best end were good to sell, 230p to 270p, topping at 284p. The export weights very good, with 200p to 210p a regular marker all day for commercial 38kg to 42kg lambs, heavier lambs 190p to 200p, with 46kg to 52kg averaging 195.9p.

Hill lambs good to sell again, with them nice Mule wethers 46kg to 48kg especially in strong demand.
