3,029 Prime Sheep

Sheep trade was largely similar to the previous week, as classes as long as well fleshed but not over fat in good demand, nice commercial export sheep around 190p to 210p again. Maybe not just as many of the very best about this week, but 220p to 250p was mainly the price for these. Hill bred lambs again maintained last weeks decent trade.

Today we held our Monthly Prize show, kindly sponsored by Wynstay and judged by Mr Bobby Booth of Edenfield. Championship honours this month went to Paul Baines from Trawden selling at £103 to Hartshead Meat Company, Mossley.

A quality show of calves but with lack of confidence in the beef trade some buyers were working to a tighter budget. 29 Black and Whites ranged from £22 up to £150. Still a premium for well fleshed black and white calves up to 6-7wks and any strong continentals were well policed to a good trade by a number of buyers.
