Mr Midgley again clinched the title with his first prize trio of 90kg Piétrain-cross gilts, which, like his 2012 victors, were again snapped up by John Summers Family Butchers, of Clayton, Bradford, for a show-topping £230 per head.

The second prize 85kg+ pen from JG Bamforth, of Slaithwaite, Huddersfield, sold for £210 each to Bamber Bridge wholesaler Stephen Taylor, who also paid the same price for the same vendor’s first prize trio of native-bred pigs.

Mr Taylor struck again to land the second prize 85kg or less pen from 13-year-old Louise Findlay, of Coverdale, for £125 each
