All classes up in price again today, The smart sorts were 10p to 15p/kg dearer this week, Beltex’s average 197p but topped at 244.6p/kg (37kg £90.50 each) from MJ&G Taylor, Rathmell, Others JGE Heseltine 237p, Fox Farms 236p, Hayley Baines 232.5p, D Findlay 232p and 227p.
Averages for lambs in the main 36kg to 45kg export weight bracket were as follows: Beltex 207.1p/kg, Texel 182.6p/kg, Charollais 183.2p/kg, Cheviot 186p/kg, Gritstone 177.4p/kg, Lleyn 174.6p/kg, Suffolk 173.6p/kg. Many runs of handy weight lambs £35 to £40 over the weight, heavy hoggs 47kg plus at £30 to £35 over the weight, The average for the 46kg to 52kg hoggs being £79.48 or about £31 over the weight.
The Mule lambs would be about £2 each dearer on the week, Best of these came from Steve Dorey who showed a pen of 23 Mules weighing 40kg at £67.50, average for Mules was 157p/kg. Prime weight Swales also making either side of 150p/kg with lightweights 130p to 145p/kg. Cast sheep were a similar trade throughout.

REARING CALVES
Despite there being a lot of young calves around trade was still strong with month old black and white calves reaching £120 from JC Marshall and averaging a £76.93. Trade ‘fair to middlin’ for Continentals with Angus Dean of Threshfield hitting £300 for a 44 day old Heifer Calf and Bulls topping at £270. Next week all buyers expected and a consignment of 10 Holstein Friesian Heifer Calves 5wks all from Nominated sires being sold after the dairy cattle in the main ring.
