MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 31st July 2013 FORTNIGHTLY SALE OF YOUNG FEEDING BULLS, STORE & BREEDING CATTLE FORWARD: 419 HEAD OF CATTLE Comprising: 102 Young Feeding Bulls, 6 Grazing Cows, 247 Bullocks & Heifers, 64 Beef Breeding Cattle A good entry presented for the fortnightly sale were of a rather more mixed quality than of late but they found a decent trade with feeders looking to keep fields and sheds topped up. A large show of breeding cattle included a production sale of Pedigree Beef Shorthorn cattle from the Beautry herd of Mr Stuart Currie that provoked quite a bit of interest from the ringside. Rowan Lea Erika a 2011 red and white daughter of Cairnsmore Zidane was top call of the day. Erika was offered for sale with her red bull calf at foot sired by the Beautry Stock bull Excaliber and there is every chance that the calf may be noted again after joining Tracy Severn’s “Highlee” Beef Shorthorn herd for £2400. The very saleable Roan heifer Rowanlea Edith by Zidane made £2280 when sold with her Roan heifer calf at foot to W Denham of Barnard Castle for £2280.
