2,204 Prime Sheep comprising 1,498 Spring Lambs, 315 Prime Hoggs (inc 56 Mature Hoggs), 391 Cast Ewes, Rams & Goats

Another large increase in lamb numbers today (1498) as vendors look to sell earlier due to drier weather conditions, and this was obvious when looking at the weight categories, with lambs as light as 30kg presented for sale, and just over 200 lambs presented scaling 37kg or less and an overall sale average of 41kg. This lighter weight of lamb still sold reasonably well so long as it was well fleshed with 32kg to 35kg’s averaging £234.3p or £80.82.
At the other end of the weight scale, heavies were a good trade with £120 to £130 a regular price range for fed lambs suitable for retail butcher and farm shop clients. The sale was topped at £135 by a super Beltex cross presented by Ellis Bros of Addingham Moorside, this was also top price per kilo at 364.9p and sold to SA Swales for Knavesmire Butchers in York. Three other vendors achieved £130 per head, JC Marshall, Harrogate also selling to Knavesmire Butchers, then TH Mellin, Colne selling to Kendalls Farm Butchers in Pateley Bridge and Harrogate, and finally R&E Pollard, Colne selling to A Atkinson.

The handy export weights were a decent trade, better ¾ bred or nice skinned types 240p/260p, first cross continentals 23-p/240p and several large runs of Suffolk Mules in the mix today at 220p/230p.
With Prize Shows not permitted at the moment, today we held a prize sale of Primestock with prizes awarded to highest priced pen of 10 or more lambs. The results are as follows:
