A 575 kg Limousin cross heifer from Mesrs AA&E Critchley & Son of Hutton lead the prices at the weekly sale when selling to Keelham Farm Shop for 251.5p/kg or £1446. Top price pence/kg was a 495kg Limousin cross heifer from Simon Bennett of Silsden Moor which sold to Hamlets Butchers of Garstang for 261.5p/kg or £1299.

Reduced numbers of cast cattle because of Nidderdale Show caused the price to firm with the Black White average distorted by a few plain sorts. Dairies carrying finish 120p+ and a young cow from J Caygill and Partners the leading price at 163.5p/kg.  A few more beef crosses on sale and the natives particularly good to sell to 137.5p/kg for A Shorthorn from J Drinkall Ltd or £1041 for an Aberdeen Angus from TM Harrison.

Plenty of sheep about even though it was Pateley Show day, and trade very similar to last week. Best sorts selling very well on the day, as were any lambs that have been given hard feed which found good favour with the buyers. Well finished handy weighted lambs were also keenly contested, and good Mules if anything were a shade dearer on the week. Anything lacking finish however was down the cut and generally 150p to 160p. Heavy lambs were adding up well, with 46kg to 49kg nice lambs attracting retail and wholesale cutomers.

Healthy show of 75 calves today considering it being Nidderdale Show day, despite this calves sold away well with Native bulls a particularly strong trade with AA bulls to £380 and averaging £347.50. Continentals were a touch easier on paper but a cracking trade for the goods on offer today with plenty of 4 week old calves and under, steaming past £300. Alan Middleton from Beamsley topped proceedings with a belting BB heifer at £410. Fleshy B&W calves sold nicely with a lot of small young calves about making good money.
