STORE & BREEDING CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 10TH JUNE 2020

Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle Forward: 663 head of cattle Comprising: 646 Feeding Cattle (210 Young Bulls, 44 Beef Feeding Cows & Bulls, 392 Bullocks & Heifers) & 17 Breeding Cattle.

Feeding Bulls – not quite as much heat in the bull trade as the past 2 sales but an outstanding show of cattle and a very strong trade to average £998 for 208 sold. Lightweight bulls continued to sell particularly well with plenty of pens of 300kg bulls £900 or over. 450kg plus continental bulls were consistently £1050 to £1130 unless exceptional in which case £1200 was the mark.

Feeding Cows – slightly less feeding cow customers but no let up in the trade with 42 sold to average £946. Again, lots of quality honest beef bred cows on sale from native breeds to U+ Continentals, the latter being £1100-£1200. Cows presented have done well since turnout so buyers were able to select from plenty of cattle carrying flesh and weight.

Store Cattle – A good show of strong cattle today set the sale off to a flyer, with all bullocks and heifers 16mo and older averaging £1041. The stars of the show were a pen of 11 quality Limousin x Heifers from A Rigby, Slaidburn which sold from £1200 to a top of £1580, with others at £1560 and £1550 twice and the consignment averaging £1414. A run of heifers from TH&K Wood, Birstwith topped at £1300 for a pair of Limousin crosses, Messrs T&LM Goad from Dent Dale made £1220 of another pair of Limousin Heifers, Bob Lancaster of West Marton was up to £1210 with 4 Limousin Bullocks, a price matched by Ellis Bros from Addingham for a pair of Limousin Heifers who also made £1200 of a pair of Limousin Bullocks. R Naylor & Sons, Ilkley also got to £1200 with a pair of Simmental Bullocks. Short keep cattle would be dearer on the fortnight with buyers looking to keep sheds topped up with both retail quality and commercial type beast seeing stronger demand through live marts and deadweight.

Yet again another strong show of all classes with some quality stock presented. Store steers up to 16 months topped at £1135 from E&M Townley selling to regular buyers CD&RF Kitching. Native bullocks seemed to lead the trade with under 16 months regular away £840-£980. M Tyson had a run of Angus bullocks and heifers in with his steers ranging from £900-£980 and an overall average of £873 for both the sex’s. Heifers up to 16 months once again met with an audience out to purchase quality stock for selling back through CCM as Prime cattle and generally for the live auction trade. Top price again to E&M Townley at £1200 followed behind at £1120 by the same vendor. Next came a pair of heifers making £1100 from K&J Marshall. Young grazing heifers Generally £820+ but some goods with less conformation and looking fairly well fleshed making mid £700’s.
