STORE & BREEDING CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 17TH JULY 2019

Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle Forward: 525 head of cattle Comprising: 383 Feeding Cattle (90 Young Bulls, 42 Beef Feeding Cows, 251 Bullocks & Heifers) & 142 Breeding Cattle. Feeding Bulls were a varied trade, some stronger and better types flying away at £1000 to £1200, whilst some more commercial types were a mixed trade with some looking value for money against others.

A nice show of 42 Feeding Cows attracted additional customers and helped maintain recent good trades. Short keep cows for hard feed generally £950 to £1150, with KA&HL Fawcett & Son Barden, L Bamforth & Son Halifax and M Mallinson Ltd Mount Tabor all realising top side of £1100 for cows. Nice handy grazing cows £700 to £900 with plainer types £500’s and £600’s. The overall average levelled at £819 including a few lightweight lean types and a Jersey cross at £190.

Stores saw a larger show on offer and some good runs of stronger cattle on offer. Strong Bullocks to £1210 from Jeremy Taylor, Broughton, and £1200 EW&E Lucas, Blackburn. Others at £1170 from A Fawcett Killinghall, £1150 Highfield Farm Coppull and Jeremy Taylor again with pairs at £1140 and £1135. P Coates Farmers Barrowford had a trio of nice heifers making £1270 £1200 and £1110. Craig Schofield Cheadle made £1210 and £1130 of good 14 month old heifers whilst A Fawcett Bishop Thornton made £1100 and A Rayton Longton made £1100 of 14 month heifers. Nice grazing yearling cattle were a reasonble trade considering current prime prices but commercial types still cheaper than those prices seen in the spring.
